Payments via Polar for WooCommerce
Polar is a merchant of record: it’s the seller of each payment, so it works out, collects and remits sales tax and VAT for you. This plugin adds Polar as a payment method at your WooCommerce checkout. It’s for digital products only.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”- WordPress 6.5 or later
- WooCommerce 8.0 or later
- PHP 8.1 or later
- A Polar organization, and a sandbox organization for testing
What it checks
Section titled “What it checks”- An order is marked paid only when Polar collected exactly its total, in its currency (before tax, when your prices exclude tax). A payment for any other amount puts the order on hold.
- The thank-you page checks with Polar before it shows, and waits a few seconds for a payment still being confirmed. Scheduled checks 15 and 60 minutes later catch any payment the webhook missed.
- Refunds go both ways. Refund in the order screen and the money goes back through Polar; refunds made in Polar show up on the order; a refund Polar couldn’t pay is noted.
- Polar’s figures on the order screen: its fee, the tax it collected and what’s left, plus the Polar IDs support asks for.
