Events and where they come from

Each event has one switch, for all platforms at once, under Settings › Track Them All › Events & privacy › Events:

  • Page view
  • View product
  • Add to cart and Remove from cart
  • View cart
  • Begin checkout
  • Purchase
  • Refund (Google Analytics, from your server, with a Measurement Protocol API secret)
  • Lead (form submit)
  • Sign-up
  • Search

Each platform gets the events it has a name for, translated into its own event names and parameters. View cart goes to Google Analytics only. Remove from cart goes to Google Analytics and Microsoft Advertising. Snapchat gets no leads, and Reddit no begin checkout. Only purchases, leads and sign-ups also go from your server, plus refunds to Google Analytics.

Sources lists the plugins on your site that events can come from:

  • WooCommerce: product views, add to cart and remove from cart (classic and block cart and checkout, AJAX buttons included), view cart, begin checkout, purchases and refunds. HPOS compatible.
  • Contact Form 7, Gravity Forms, WPForms, Fluent Forms and Elementor Pro forms: each submission is a lead, sent from the browser and your server with a shared ID.
  • WordPress: new user registrations and site searches. Accounts you create in wp-admin don’t count as sign-ups.
  • A purchase is sent when WooCommerce marks the order paid, from your server, so orders completed by off-site gateways aren’t lost. The thank-you page’s browser event carries the same ID, so the platform keeps one.
  • Unpaid orders (bank transfer, cheque, a payment still pending) aren’t reported until they’re paid.
  • Subscription renewals from WooCommerce Subscriptions, or from a payment plugin that bills renewals itself, aren’t reported as purchases. Turn on Send subscription renewals as purchases, in the Sources card, if you want them counted. The switch appears with WooCommerce Subscriptions, or with a payment plugin that bills subscriptions, such as Payments via Polar.
  • Ad-click IDs from Meta, TikTok, Pinterest, Snapchat, X, LinkedIn, Microsoft Advertising and Reddit are kept for 90 days from the ad’s landing page, with the visitor’s consent, so a later purchase still matches the click when an ad blocker stopped the platform’s tag. The order stops keeping them once its purchase has been sent.

Base tags are printed as standard async snippets and the tracking script is deferred. Server-side sends run in the background with Action Scheduler (included), never while a visitor waits, and are retried if a platform is briefly unreachable.
