Terms and refunds

Draft: not yet reviewed. This page hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer yet.
The short version
- Polar sells your order. Polar (polar.sh) is our reseller and merchant of record: it charges you, works out and collects any sales tax or VAT, and sends the receipt.
- Prices exclude tax. Polar adds any sales tax or VAT for your location at checkout, and you see the total before you pay.
- Yearly plans renew every year at the same price until you cancel, the bundle included. Polar bills the renewal.
- Lifetime plans are paid once and never renew. Their key never expires, and gets updates and support for as long as we sell the plugin.
- Cancel any time from your account. Your key keeps working until the end of the year you paid for, and the plugin keeps working after that.
- Several plugins bought together are one yearly subscription, with a key for each plugin.
- Full refund within 14 days of a purchase. Refunding your first purchase, yearly or lifetime, deactivates its key; refunding a renewal takes that year back. A refund doesn’t cancel the subscription.
- The plugins are GPL software. A key gives you updates and support; it never switches features on or off.
Who you’re buying from
Orders placed on store.zealden.com are sold by Polar, our reseller and merchant of record. Polar is the seller of each order: it takes the payment, works out, collects and pays any sales tax or VAT, and issues your receipt. The purchase itself is governed by Polar’s buyer terms.
These terms are between you and ZealDen (“we”). They cover the software, your license key, your account on store.zealden.com, this website and our support.
What a license key gives you
Each plugin is sold with a license key for 1 site, 5 sites or 25 sites. While your plan runs, the key gives you:
- Updates on the Plugins screen of every site the key is active on, from store.zealden.com.
- Support by email from ZealDen.
- Sites up to your plan’s limit. You free a site yourself, from the plugin’s License card or from My Account › Licenses, and use the seat elsewhere.
Local copies of a site don’t use one of your sites: addresses on localhost, private and loopback IP addresses, and addresses ending in .test, .local, .localhost, .example or .invalid. A staging site on a public address, such as staging.yourstore.com, set up and activated on its own, uses a site like any other.
The bundle gives you one key for each of the four plugins, each for the number of sites you chose.
Prices and tax
Prices on the pricing page are before tax. Polar works out any sales tax or VAT from your location and adds it at checkout, so you see the total before you pay. Your receipt from Polar shows the tax.
Renewal
Every yearly plan, including the bundle, is a yearly subscription. Plugins bought together in one checkout share one subscription:
- Price: each renewal costs the plan’s price when you bought it, plus any sales tax or VAT that applies at renewal. A plan bought at a sale price renews at that sale price.
- Interval: once a year, on the anniversary of your purchase.
- Who bills you: Polar, using the payment method you paid with. You can change it in Polar’s customer portal.
- Reminder: Polar emails you 7 days before each renewal, unless you’ve already cancelled.
- What renewing does: it extends the same key, on the same sites, by another year.
To change the plugins in a shared subscription, cancel it and choose again at renewal, or email support@zealden.com and we’ll change it for you.
Lifetime plans
Every plugin and the bundle also come as a lifetime plan, for the same number of sites, at a single price shown on the pricing page:
- You pay once. A lifetime plan isn’t a subscription: Polar charges you once and never bills you again.
- The key never expires. It gets every update and email support for as long as we sell and maintain the plugin. If we ever stop, the plugin keeps working on your sites, because the code is GPL.
- One checkout each way. Polar takes one-time payments and subscriptions separately, so a lifetime plan and a yearly plan can’t be bought in the same checkout. Several lifetime plans can.
- Refunds work as for any first purchase: in full within 14 days, and the refund deactivates the key.
Cancelling
Cancel a subscription from your account, any time, without contacting us:
- Sign in at store.zealden.com and open My Account › Subscriptions, then choose Manage. Or open the order from your order email and choose Manage subscription.
- Polar’s customer portal opens.
- Cancel the subscription there.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your key keeps working until the end of the year you’ve paid for. After that, the plugin keeps working on your sites, but updates and support stop until you renew.
We don’t refund the rest of a year when you cancel part-way through it, except within the refund window below.
Refunds
- A full refund within 14 days of any purchase, for any reason. Ask from support@zealden.com with your order number, or through the receipt Polar sent you.
- Polar pays the refund back to the payment method you used. How long it takes to reach you depends on your bank or card provider.
- Refunding your first purchase deactivates its key straight away, even if you’ve paid renewals since. Those sites stop receiving updates; the plugin itself keeps working, because the code is GPL.
- Refunding a renewal takes back the year it added. The key isn’t deactivated: it keeps working until the date it had before that renewal, then lapses. A partial refund that doesn’t return the renewal leaves the year in place.
- A refund doesn’t cancel your subscription. Cancel it as well (see Cancelling), or the next year will be charged.
- If you’re a consumer in the EU or UK, any statutory right to withdraw from the purchase is set out in Polar’s buyer terms, because Polar is the seller. Our 14-day refund applies on top of it.
- Nothing here limits your right to dispute a charge with your card provider.
Your account
Your account on store.zealden.com holds your orders, keys and subscriptions. Keep its password to yourself. You’re responsible for what’s done with your keys.
Support
- What’s covered: installing and setting up the plugins, how their features work, and bugs in the current version.
- What isn’t: custom development, third-party plugins and themes, and your accounts with outside services (ad platforms, storage providers, Polar).
- How: by email at support@zealden.com. We aim to answer within two working days.
- Support runs while the plan runs.
Acceptable use
Don’t publish your key, share it beyond your plan’s sites, or resell it. Don’t try to get around the site limit, overload the license API or break into our systems. We may deactivate keys used this way.
The software comes as is
The plugins are free software under the GNU General Public License, and come without warranty, as that license says.
As far as the law allows, our total liability to you for anything to do with the plugins, your key, your account or our support is limited to what you paid for your plans in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow us to limit.
Changes to these terms
We’ll post changes on this page with a new “Last updated” date. A change to the price or renewal of an active subscription applies only after we’ve told you by email, and from its next renewal.
Law
Nothing in these terms takes away any protection the law of your country gives you as a consumer.
