Licensing and GPL

The plugins are GPL software

Track Them All, ZealDen Safe Media Offload, ZealDen Sell Your Plugins, Payments via Polar for WooCommerce and Payments via Polar for Easy Digital Downloads are licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later, like WordPress itself.

Both Payments via Polar plugins bundle Polar’s @polar-sh/checkout 0.4.1 (Apache License 2.0) in their checkout scripts, for the embedded payment window. Its third-party notices put it this way: “The Apache License 2.0 is compatible with version 3 of the GNU GPL. This plugin is licensed GPL-2.0-or-later, so the combined work is distributed under the GPL version 3.” Each plugin’s readme.txt lists its bundled code, and both Payments via Polar plugins ship the full notice in THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt.

What the GPL lets you do

With any copy of our plugins you’ve received, you may:

  • run it on as many sites as you like, for any purpose;
  • study and change the code;
  • share it, changed or not, under the same license.

What a license key is for

A ZealDen license key doesn’t switch any feature on or off. Every feature works with or without a key. The key gives you:

  • Updates, delivered from store.zealden.com to the Plugins screen of the sites the key is active on, while your plan runs;
  • Support from ZealDen by email, while your plan runs.

The number of sites in your plan is the number of sites that can receive updates with that key at the same time. Local copies (localhost, private and loopback IP addresses, and .test, .local, .localhost, .example and .invalid addresses) don’t count.

When a plan ends, the plugin keeps working exactly as it did. It stops receiving updates, and its License card shows Expired with a Renew link.

What the key sends

Nothing is sent before you enter a key. After that, about twice a day, a site sends store.zealden.com the key, the site’s address, a random ID for that site, and the WordPress, PHP and plugin versions it runs. Activating the key sends the key, the address and that ID; deactivating sends the key and the ID. See Privacy.

Trademarks

The GPL covers the code, not our name. “ZealDen”, the ZealDen logo and our product names aren’t licensed to you. If you share a changed version of a plugin, give it a name and look of its own, and don’t suggest we made or endorse it.

Third-party services

Our plugins connect to services you choose, under those services’ own terms: ad platforms (Track Them All), storage providers (Safe Media Offload) and Polar (both Payments via Polar plugins). Each plugin’s readme lists them with links to their terms and privacy policies.
